Contract To Hire Feb 19, 2026 Automotive Job Title: Uplift Technician
Location: Columbus, OH
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Rate of Pay: $22.00 - $26.00+ per hour
Required: Must be able to clear pre-employment background, drug test and possess a valid Driver’s License.

Position Summary:
The Upfit Technician is responsible for installing aftermarket equipment and performing modifications on commercial trucks and vans to meet customer specifications and company standards. This role includes installation of electrical components, safety packages, truck accessories, and complete body installations such as service bodies, dump bodies, and flatbeds. The Upfit Technician may also perform light fabrication work to support installations. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, electrical knowledge, and the ability to work efficiently in a production environment while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
Component Installation
Install aftermarket equipment including:
Strobe and emergency lighting systems
Safety packages (camera systems, sensors, warning lights)
Backup alarms
Electrical accessories and auxiliary systems
Perform proper wiring, routing, and secure mounting of electrical components.
Test installed systems to ensure proper operation and safety compliance.
Accessory Installation:
Install bed caps, tonneau covers, ladder racks, toolboxes, and related truck accessories.
Ensure proper alignment, secure mounting, and weatherproofing.
Body Installations:
Assist with and/or complete installations of:
Service bodies
Dump bodies
Flatbeds
Perform necessary frame mounting, bolting, and mechanical connections.
Ensure installations meet OEM guidelines and company standards.
Light Fabrication:
Perform light fabrication tasks including drilling, cutting, mounting brackets, and basic welding (if qualified).
Modify components as required to complete installations properly.
Troubleshooting & Quality Control:
Diagnose and resolve installation issues.
Verify work meets customer specifications and company quality standards.
Conduct functional checks and inspections prior to vehicle release.
Safety & Compliance:
Follow all shop safety protocols and PPE requirements.
Ensure installations comply with OEM body builder guidelines and applicable regulations.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Teamwork & Continuous Improvement:
Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and fellow technicians.
Assist in identifying process improvements to increase efficiency and quality.
Participate in training and skill development opportunities.
Qualification:
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
1–3+ years of experience in vehicle upfitting, automotive service, fabrication, or mechanical assembly preferred.
Experience with 12V electrical systems strongly preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
Ability to read work orders, wiring diagrams, and installation instructions.
Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and basic fabrication equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb in and out of vehicles for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
Comfortable working in shop environments with varying temperatures and noise levels.
Work Environment:
Shop floor environment with exposure to tools, equipment, vehicles, and fabrication materials.
Required PPE including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear.
